June/July Shipping Delays

We generally ship our online orders out on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to insure your bamboo gets to you within 1 business week. Sometimes holidays fall on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and this can cause some delays with our shipping. This year the 4th of July falls on a Wednesday so please expect a further week delay on shipping on any orders between now and the 4th. If you ever need an update on your order, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Here is a list of improvements from the last website:

  • Easier for Bamboo Headquarters staff to write and submit new articles
  • Better organization and search (look at the upper right hand section of the site to search for plants AND articles!)
  • Better online store and checkout process: eliminates many errors of previous online store
  • And much more! Explore around the new site and let us know if we are missing anything!

Santa Ana Bamboo Sunset

In Southern California we have dry, hot winds that create some interesting atmospheric conditions for sunset. Here is a photo we took of our bamboo garden silhouetted against our California sunset sky.

If you live in an area that receives dry, hot winds, please remember to water your bamboo leaves and soak the ground around it to prevent leaf curl on days like this.

Chusqea Fireworks!

Chusquea pitteriThe clumpers in our bamboo garden have begun to shoot! This is a common phenomenon for this time of year. One of our most striking shooting bamboo is the Chusquea pitteri. Once the new shoots begin to branch, the new branchlets burst out like fireworks.

Heat Wave

Please be sure to give your bamboo special attention during this time of year, as many parts of the country are experiencing record highs. Please soak the ground around your bamboo plant on a daily basis when the temperatures rise above 90 and spray the leaves with water.

If you have recently purchased from our online store, we may be placing your order on hold until the weather cools down. If you have any questions, please reply to the confirmation e-mail you received when you placed your order. If you have lost your confirmation, please use our contact form.

Remember that if you order during this time of year, your plant may pass through hot parts of the country on a delivery truck or train. Please consider having us hold your order for a later ship date if you order in the Summer. There is a place on our checkout form to put a “hold until” date.

Planting the Garden

Our team at Bamboo Headquarters is working hard to plant our display garden with rare and unusual bamboo. This week we have been working on transplanting a Bambusa nana to a more viewable part of the garden.
